welcome to week 2.

week 1 was wild. crazy to see that there are 60,000+ ppl working on their ideas. tysm for being here with us. alright, here's all the info you'll need for this week :)

watch recording of lecture #2.

don't worry if you missed any of the livestreams. we get it. many of you have full time jobs/school. and it's hella late for a lot of you.

but, we absolutely love it when you do show up. the team gets so much energy form you.

here's the recording of lecture #2. it starts at 45:31.

btw, youtube lets you watch the replay with chat. so, feel free to do that!

just as a reminder all lecture + lab recordings from previous weeks are on the os in the recordings folder.

if you email adrianna one more time asking for a recording she's gonna lose it lmao.

watch recording of lab# 2.

this lab session was sick af. we brought different people on to review toys, give feedback, and also give out $100 grants.

definitely go watch it if you missed it, you can watch the recordings here.

catch up on week 1 submissions.

okay, we know that many of you are past the deadline. but we also know that it doesn't mean that you're not working on your idea. for many of you, it's your first time doing something this.

so, we extended the submission deadline for week 1 to this thursday @11:59 pm pt.

we've made these updates very easy for you.

submit your idea slide, give feedback, and you're good to go — submit week 1 here if you didn't already.

week 2 update is due monday, july 1 @ 11:59 pm pt.

definitely watch lecture #2 to understand what we want you to submit for week-two's update. it's also a pretty fun lecture — highly recommend :)

the weekly update is a simple form you fill out each week, check it out real quick and scroll through it to get an idea of what you gotta submit.

see and submit update 2 here.

required steps for weekly update #2.

01 — build the toy version of your idea and show us your progress.

this week is all about creating the toy version of your idea like i talked about during lecture #2 — pls watch that before moving on.

your toy will look different depending on what your project is. maybe your toy is a video, a picture, a sketch, whatever. you choose.

  • if you're making music, then maybe it's a 30 second version of the song.

  • if you're building an app, then maybe it's a wireframe or just a shitty html/css/js of it and get ppl to test it out.

  • if you're building hardware, then maybe it's a hand drawn sketch or 3d model/simulation of the idea.

a toy is just a way to show people the simplest version of your idea. think of a toy as something you could build in a week and get a vibe check.

i actually go through and explain different examples of a toy here.

your toy could be anything. literally.

  • the first 10s of your song

  • a hype trailer for your product

  • a screen recording showing your toy

  • an hacked together early demo of you game

  • a hardcoded product flow

  • a sketch of your vertical farm

  • a localhost demo for your ios app

  • the intro to your new youtube video

  • first episode of your new podcast

  • the first two pages of your novel

  • a whatsapp group where you post food you're tryna sell

  • a landing page showing off your hackathon

  • a picture of your art

  • an event you run at your house

  • a picture of an early schematic of your hardware product

  • etc.

we recommend making a simple video where you just show your toy and briefly explain what it is. for example, if it's a sketch then show people what the sketch is about and what you hope to build.

pls don't get hung up on editing. just make sure that you explain it well and the sound quality is good. don't record this in a noisy coffee shop lol.

here are some examples from almost every domain:

here's an example of a toy for a tech project type.
here's another example of a toy for a tech project type.
here's an example of a toy for a game dev type.
here's an example of a toy for a musician type.
here's example of a toy for a d2c product type
here's an example of a toy for a hardware type.
here's another example of a toy for a hardware type.
here's an example of a toy for a content/art creator type.
here's an another example of a toy for a content/art creator type.

p.s. don't feel like you can only share your toy on twitter or instagram. try sharing it on different places. if you're only used to twitter, try reddit or linkedin. if you're used to instagram, try youtube. you never know what will happen.

p.s.s. if you don't wanna share it with the world yet, then make sure to at least drop a video telling us what you did on the update :)

02 — [optional] give 3 people feedback on their ideas/toys.

we still got hella people posting their idea slides, and soon they'll be posting their toys as well.

go ahead and give 3 new people feedback on their idea slide or toys. they'll really appreciate it.

03 — [optional extra credit] submitting a reel/tweet/yt short/ tiktok presenting your idea + showing your toy.

starting with this update, we’ll start keeping our eye out for people to give a $5,000 grant to at the end of the season.

if you're interested in this, go ahead and submit a reel / tweet / yt short / tiktok presenting your idea + showing us your toy from this week. we’ll be watching these each week.

this doesn't need to be crazy fancy. just make sure you have this format:

  1. introduce yourself

  2. say your one liner for your idea.

  3. show your idea/toy.

  4. 30-40 second video or less.

here's adriana's example for reference:

don't forget — if you haven't submitted update 1 yet, you still can till thursday.

update #2 is due by monday, july 1 @ 11:59 pm pt.

rsvp for the next two streams.
